LED Light Therapy Facial
Revitalize Your Skin: LED Light Therapy Facial Treatment
LED light therapy has an established history of skin uses. The U.S. Navy SEALs began using it in the 1990s to help heal wounds quickly and to help regenerate damaged muscle tissues. Since then, the treatment has been researched for different situations in aesthetics. It’s mainly noted for increasing collagen and tissues. All of which can smooth out your skin and reduce the appearance of damage from: age spots, acne, wrinkles.
There are different frequencies, or wavelengths, used with LED light treatment. These include red and blue light frequencies, which don’t contain ultraviolet rays and are readily absorbed into the skin.
Red Light
Red, or infrared, light is used for treating the epidermis, which is the outer layer of skin. When the light is applied to your skin, the epidermis absorbs it and then stimulates collagen proteins.
In theory, more collagen means that your skin will look smoother and fuller, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Red LED light is also thought to reduce inflammation while improving circulation, which can give you a healthier glow.
Blue Light
Blue LED light therapy, on the other hand, targets the sebaceous glands, which are also called oil glands. They’re located beneath your hair follicles. Sebaceous glands are necessary for lubricating your skin and hair so that it doesn’t dry out. However, these glands can become overactive, leading to oily skin and acne.
The theory is that blue LED light therapy can target these oil glands and make them less active. In turn, you may see fewer acne breakouts. Blue light can also kill acne-causing bacteria beneath the skin, which can help treat severe acne pimples, including cysts and nodules.
Often times, blue LED light is used in conjunction with red LED light to:
- Help treat acne
- Decrease scarring
- Promote anti-inflammatory effects
One 2018 animal study found that blue LED improved the healing of third-degree skin burns.

What we offer at London Body Centre
While LED light therapy can technically be used on any part of the body, its most popular use is for the face. Skin damage tends to occur to your face because it’s exposed to the elements more than other body parts. LED therapy can also be used on the neck and chest, which are other areas that tend to show signs of aging.
LED Phototherapy is a non-invasive hand and facial treatment that uses narrow-band, non-thermal LED light energy to trigger your body’s natural cell processes to accelerate rejuvenation and repair of the skin. It’s recommended for skin rejuvenation, sun damage, acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, sensitive and inflammatory conditions, wound healing, and scarring, as well as anyone looking to restore their skin’s radiance.
LED Light Therapy is great in every single facial to calm any areas of irritation and it’s also brilliant at brightening the skin. When used consistently over time, LED lights are thought to penetrate your skin at different depths and cause various reactions, such as fighting acne-causing bacteria, plumping skin, and reducing wrinkles.
A course of treatments offers corrective and long-lasting results, although you’ll be able to see a difference after the first session. Light therapy is also particularly calming, so you’ll leave feeling refreshed.
Understanding LED Light Therapy: How Does It Work?
Unlock the secrets behind LED Light Therapy and discover how it works its magic on your skin. Explore the science behind this innovative treatment and learn how it can rejuvenate your complexion.
How does it work?
LED light therapy uses color wavelengths of visible light which have specific skin benefits. As a result of aging, skin disorders, or trauma, healthy skin cells are compromised and unable to renew themselves normally. The skin uses the light as a source of energy to fuel the repair and rejuvenation of damaged cells, or, in the case of treating acne, kill bacteria.
Before the LED Light Therapy Facial treatment
There is no major preparation required. We advise arriving with a clean, makeup-free face if possible. If you use Retin-A or highly photosensitizing topical medications, you may be advised to pause them for a few days prior to the treatment.
During the LED Light Therapy Facial treatment
Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed. You will be provided with protective eye goggles to ensure your comfort. The LED light panel will be positioned close to your face, and you will simply lie back and relax for 20 to 30 minutes while the light gets to work. The treatment is completely pain-free and soothing.
How many treatments are needed?
While you will notice a refreshed glow after a single session, LED Light Therapy is a cumulative treatment. For optimal, corrective, and long-lasting results, a course of 6 to 10 treatments spaced a week or two apart is highly recommended.
Facts you need to know
LED therapy does not contain ultraviolet (UV) rays, meaning it is completely safe and will not cause damage or burns to the skin. It is entirely non-invasive and safe for all skin colors and types.

LED Light Therapy FAQs: Your Burning Questions Answered
Get answers to all your burning questions about LED Light Therapy in our comprehensive FAQ section. From treatment duration to expected results, we’ve got you covered with expert insights and information.
What does LED Light therapy (photorejuvenation) do?
It utilizes specific, non-thermal light wavelengths to stimulate cellular activity, boost collagen and elastin production, reduce inflammation, accelerate tissue repair, and destroy acne-causing bacteria.
How does the treatment work?
The skin absorbs the light energy, which converts into cellular energy (ATP). This boost in energy fuels the cells to repair damage, regenerate, and function at an optimal, youthful level.
What side effects will you experience?
LED Light Therapy is exceptionally safe. Side effects are extremely rare. Some clients may experience very mild, temporary redness immediately after the session, which quickly subsides.
How long do the treatments take?
The active light therapy portion typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. A full facial appointment, including preparation and finishing products, usually takes around 45 to 60 minutes.
Are maintenance treatments necessary?
Yes. Because the skin is a living organ that continues to age, maintenance sessions every month or two are recommended after completing your initial course to sustain your results.
How soon are results visible?
You will likely see an immediate, healthy glow and a reduction in inflammation or redness right after your first session. More dramatic results regarding wrinkles and acne clearance appear after several cumulative sessions.
How long will results last?
With a full course of treatments and proper home skincare, results can last for several months. Regular maintenance sessions will keep the skin functioning optimally.
Is LED therapy right for everyone?
It is generally safe for all skin types and colors. However, it may not be suitable if you suffer from conditions that make you highly photosensitive, or if you are taking medications that increase light sensitivity.
Does this treatment complement other skin care regimens?
Absolutely. In fact, it is frequently paired with other treatments like microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and microneedling because it accelerates healing, reduces redness, and enhances the overall results.
Can I immediately reapply my makeup?
Yes, there is no downtime. You can immediately reapply makeup and resume your regular daily activities.
Can I go into the sun? Will I lose my tan?
Yes, you can go into the sun, though wearing SPF is always recommended. LED light therapy does not increase your sensitivity to the sun and it will not cause you to lose your tan.
Can I also have retin-A or Accutane treatments at the same time?
You should discontinue Retin-A for a few days prior to treatment to avoid irritation. Accutane greatly increases skin sensitivity; therefore, you must consult your dermatologist before undergoing LED therapy if you are on or have recently taken Accutane.
Is light therapy abrasive or painful? What does it feel like?
It is not abrasive or painful in any way. The lights do not emit heat, though you may feel a very slight, soothing warmth. Most clients find the treatment incredibly relaxing.
Can I have Microdermabrasion at the same time I’m having light therapy?
Yes! Combining the two is an excellent strategy. Microdermabrasion removes the barrier of dead skin cells, allowing the LED light to penetrate even deeper, while the LED light subsequently calms the skin and reduces post-exfoliation redness.
Will my skin feel any different?
Immediately after the treatment, your skin will feel calmer, softer, more hydrated, and noticeably revitalized.
